Where did jose rizal's name came from?

The surname Rizal (taken from the Spanish "ricial" which means "verdant" or "green") was adopted by Jose Rizal's family after the Claveria decree of 1849. Before then, they were known as the Mercado's. Jose is a common Spanish first name, an equivalent of the English, John.
